Our People Will Be Healed | Alanis Obomsawin | 2017 | 1 h 37 min (in the presence of Alanis Obomsawin, invited by the Atwater Library)

Our People Will Be Healed, Alanis Obomsawin’s 50th film, reveals how a Cree community in Manitoba has been enriched through the power of education. The Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre in Norway House, north of Winnipeg, receives a level of funding that few other Indigenous institutions enjoy. Its teachers help their students to develop their abilities and their sense of pride.

This special event is a presentation by the Right Honourable Paul Martin on the Martin Family Initiative, a charitable foundation whose mission is funding elementary and high school education for Indigenous youth. After his presentation from 12:30 to 1:30, following a 30-minute break, starting at 2:00 pm, the acclaimed filmmaker, Alanis Obomsawin presents her film, Our People Will Be Healed, with Q&A.

This event is part of the AABIZIINGWASHI (Wide Awake), the NFB Indigenous cinema on tour. To find a screening near you, click here.
