Three individuals converge in the creation of Thanadoula—each holds a unique strand of connective thread in this ethereal, between-worlds story. Layering real-life details with an otherworldly magic, Thanadoula recounts the story of an end-of-life doula brought to her calling through the loss of her beloved sister.

Dr. Gabor Maté, subject and Annie’s doctor – A renowned speaker, and bestselling author, Dr. Gabor Maté weaves together scientific research, case histories and his own insights and experience to present a perspective that enlightens and empowers people to promote their own healing and that of those around them.

Robin McKenna, Director – Award-winning director, producer and writer of creative, personal documentaries.

Natalie Eskenazy, subject – Natalie’s experience losing her sister Annie led her to become a death doula, bringing comfort to people during
their last moments.

Moderated by: Jelena Popović, producer – A producer at the NFB’s English Animation Studio since January 2014, Jelena has produced and co-produced a dozen multi-awarded films.
