The NFB, in partnership with the Sommets du cinéma d’animation, is pleased to invite you to a master class with Janet Perlman.

On May 13, tune into Janet Perlman’s universe at the Sommets du cinéma d’animation! In this master class divided into two blocks of 2 hours, the director will give an overview of her impressive career in animation. Among other things, she will share her inspirations, the evolution of her animation techniques, how she develops her ideas, as well as a few well-kept secrets.

Janet Perlman was 22 years old when she made Lady Fishbourne’s Complete Guide to Better Table Manners at the NFB. Why Me?, co-directed with Derek Lamb, and The Tender Tale of Cinderella Penguin, which was nominated for an Academy Award, followed a few years later. Among her independent productions, My Favorite Things That I Love and Sorry Film Not Ready are examples of her characteristic sense of humour. In 2000, Janet founded Hulascope Studio with her great accomplice Judith Gruber-Stitzer, co-producing Penguins Behind Bars, with the NFB, as well as Dinner for Two and Bully Dance, both of which won several awards and mentions, dealing with conflict resolution in a witty way. Following Invasion of the Space Lobsters and Monsieur Pug, Janet Perlman offers a brand new creation, The Girl with the Red Beret, inspired by a song by Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
