Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie

The Rendez-vous de la Francophonie (RVF) is a cross-Canada celebration of the French language, and one of the largest cultural events organized under the umbrella of the Journée internationale de la Francophonie, held annually on March 20. The NFB has been taking part in the RVF since 2006 through a series of free screenings in venues across the country, from coast to coast, from the Great Lakes to the Arctic, offering a programming lineup that changes from year to year.

Virtual or in-person public screenings

Step 1. Choose one or more of the programs in the current year’s offer.

Step 2. Fill out the online request form to register. We can supply an electronic file (.mp4 or .mov) or ship a physical copy (projection-quality DVD) for screenings in your library. For virtual screenings, we can provide a hyperlink. Promotional materials will also be supplied.

Step 3. Prior to your event, use your screening equipment to test the film format delivered to you (digitally or by mail).

Step 4. After the screening, send audience numbers by email to rvf@nfb.ca. These stats are important to ensure we stay true to our mandate of delivering documentaries, auteur animation, interactive storytelling and participatory experiences nationwide.

In addition to public screenings, you can also watch films on our L’espace francophonie page, which offers a list of curated works that honour the diversity of Canada’s Francophonie. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have a virtual screening?
Absolutely! We understand that in-person screenings may not always be possible, so we are happy to support those who would like to come together online for a virtual screening. Many groups host virtual screening events using web-based platforms as a means of staying connected and engaged within their communities.
Does the NFB provide promotional material?
For most of our recent titles, we can provide an Electronic Press Kit, which includes graphics for the film as well as additional information that could be helpful in your promotion or in a post-screening discussion, such as the trailer, synopsis, director biography, credits, etc. *Please remember to acknowledge the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) in your promotion. Events Page: We will promote your screening on our Events page, which you can use to promote your screening directly, or provide a link to it from your website or social media pages. Social Media: If you create a Facebook event page for your screening, simply include the NFB as a co-host; this will allow us to share your event among our social media followers too. You can populate your event page with the graphics, clips, and descriptions found in the Electronic Press Kit.
Is there a cost?
There is no cost to host a virtual or in-person screening of any NFB films offered in this year’s Rendez-vous de la francophonie program. Since the films in our collection are bound by public performance copyright restrictions, admission to screenings must be free of charge, and DVDs/Blu-rays must be returned to us by regular mail after your screening or destroyed if they cannot be returned. Downloaded film files must be deleted. The NFB is committed to complying with these copyright restrictions and thereby respecting the work of the artists, technicians and professionals involved in these productions.
Can I purchase films for my library?
If you would like to keep a film for your collection, you may purchase it by contacting our customer service department at info@nfb.ca.
