at the Calling Back our Spirit Gathering on September 30th at the Metro C
inema.\n\n\nThis free event will open with a Pipe Ceremony at 11:00 am\, t
o be followed by a screening of the NFB documentary\, WaaPaKe (Tomorrow) a
t noon. Director Jules Koostachin will be attending in person and will be
joined by curator Akira Iahtail for a panel discussion on family healing f
ollowing the film screening.\n\n\n\nWaaPake (Tomorrow) - directed by Jules
  Arita Koostachin (2023\, 80 min) \n\nIn Swampy Cree\, the word WaaPaKe m
eans tomorrow—and as Attawapiskat filmmaker Jules Koostachin says in her
deeply personal documentary\, “Tomorrow means hope. It means that we ha
ve a future.”\n\nA powerful film about intergenerational trauma and heal
ing\, examined through an Indigenous lens\, WaaPaKe reveals the reality o
f living in the shadow of residential school experiences and explores ways
in which we can change the narrative to one that offers hope and a view t
o the future. The film creates a space for reflection and discussion so th
at the descendants of residential school survivors may respond to this sha
red burden of history and confront the cyclical nature of intergenerationa
l trauma in their own lives and beyond.\n\n“…a tender portrait of how
we shift from a trauma-centric conversation to one of actionable healing a
nd acceptance within family – with community\, land\, love and culture.
WaaPaKe is a testimony of courage\, care and respect.”\n—ImagineNATIV
