p with Oshawa Libraries\, presents the latest in their Speakers Series:\n\
nTotem: The Return of the G'psgolox Pole (directed by Gil Cardinal\, 2003\
, 70 min)\n\nThis feature-length documentary traces the journey of the Hai
sla people to reclaim the G'psgolox totem pole that went missing from thei
r British Columbia village in 1929. The fate of the 19th century tradition
al mortuary pole remained unknown for over 60 years until it was discovere
d in a Stockholm museum where it is considered state property by the Swedi
sh government.\n\nDirector Gil Cardinal combines interviews\, striking ima
gery and rare footage of master carvers to raise questions about ownership
and the meaning of Indigenous objects held in museums.\n\nStay after the
film for an entertaining lecture from the Oshawa Historical Society.\n\n--
