SUMMARY:The new wave of Latina-Canadian cinema at the NFB
DESCRIPTION:As part of THE NFB IN LIBRARIES programming\, the North Vancouv
 er City Library will present nine short films by various Latina-Canadian f
 ilmmakers to highlight Latin American Heritage Month.\n\nTo celebrate Lati
 n American Heritage Month in October\, this program shines the spotlight o
 n the contemporary work of Latina-Canadian filmmakers. Although Latin-Ame
 rican women have been making films at the NFB since the mid-1970s (e.g.\, 
 Chilean-born pioneer Marilú Mallet)\, it wasn’t until the last decade t
 hat a new wave of Latina-Canadian cinema emerged at the National Film Bo
 ard of Canada. More specifically\, the filmmakers whose work is discussed 
 in this blog post identify as women and are either first-generation Canadi
 ans or were born in a Latin-American country (Costa Rica\, Brazil\, Venezu
 ela\, etc.). Most importantly\, most of them recently directed an NFB-prod
 uced film.\n\nNFB’s Collection Curator\, Camilo Martin-Florez\, will be 
 presenting the screening.\n\nHere is the list of films included in the pro
