SUMMARY:Speakers for the Dead + MacPherson
DESCRIPTION:\n\nSpeakers for the Dead\nJennifer Holness &amp\; David Suther
land\n2000 | 49 min\n\n\n\n\n\nThis documentary reveals some of the hidd
en history of Blacks in Canada. In the 1930s in rural Ontario\, a farmer b
uried the tombstones of a Black cemetery to make way for a potato patch. I
n the 1980s\, descendants of the original settlers\, Black and White\, cam
e together to restore the cemetery\, but there were hidden truths no one w
anted to discuss. Deep racial wounds were opened. Scenes of the cemetery e
xcavation\, interviews with residents and re-enactments—including one of
a baseball game where a broken headstone is used for home plate—add to
 the film's emotional intensity.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n\nMacPherson\nMartine Char
 trand\n2012 | 10 min\n\n\n\n\nThis animated film by Martine Chartrand (B
lack Soul) recounts the friendship between a young Félix Leclerc and Fran
k Randolph Macpherson\, a Jamaican chemical engineer and university gradua
te who worked for a pulp and paper company. An inveterate jazz fan\, Macph
erson inspired Leclerc\, who wrote a song about the log drives and entitle
d it “MacPherson” in honour of his friend. Paint-on-glass animation sh
 ot with a 35mm camera.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\nFor more info\, click here\n
