SUMMARY:nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up
DESCRIPTION:\nTasha Hubbard\n2019 | 1 h 38 min\n\n\n\n\n\nOn August 9\, 2
016\, a young Cree man named Colten Boushie died from a gunshot to the bac
k of his head after entering Gerald Stanley’s rural property with his fr
iends. The jury’s subsequent acquittal of Stanley captured international
attention\, raising questions about racism embedded within Canada’s leg
al system and propelling Colten’s family to national and international s
tages in their pursuit of justice. Sensitively directed by Tasha Hubbard\,
nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up weaves a profound narrative encompas
sing the filmmaker’s own adoption\, the stark history of colonialism on
the Prairies\, and a vision of a future where Indigenous children can live
safely on their homelands.\n\n\n\n\nTruth and Reparation Film Series\, pr
esented by The Mir Centre for Peace and Indigenous Services at Selkirk Col
lege.\nJade Tootoosis will participate in a discussion at 9pm\, following
 the film.\nMore information here.\n\n\n\nPhoto : © Melissa Kent / CBC Lic
