DESCRIPTION:As part of THE NFB IN LIBRARIES\, the Lethbridge Public Librar
 y is offering a free screening of the following film:\n\nJohn Ware Reclaim
 ed (Cheryl Foggo | 2020 | 73 min)\n\nIs it possible to love someone wh
 o died before you were born? Cheryl Foggo believes so. John Ware Reclaime
 d follows filmmaker Foggo on her quest to uncover the complex story of Jo
 hn Ware\, a Black cowboy and rancher who settled in Alberta prior to the t
 urn of the 20th century. As she endeavours to dig past the racist myths a
 nd mistellings surrounding Ware\, she recalls her childhood in Calgary\, A
 lberta\, her own experiences of racism\, and her family’s history as par
 t of the 1910 migration to western Canada to escape violence in the southe
 rn United States. She also evokes the suppressed history of a thriving Bla
 ck presence in the Prairies: the Black pioneers who lived\, worked\, and r
 aised families in the west. Foggo’s archival\, genealogical\, and archae
 ological search\, and her creative reimagining of John Ware’s life\, rev
 eal who this iconic figure might have been\, and what his legacy means.\n\
