DESCRIPTION:The Indigenous Reconciliation Gathering in Winnipeg\, Treaty On
 e Territory\, is hosted in partnership with the Southern Chiefs' Organizat
 ion Inc.\, Manitoba Métis Federation\, Manitoba Inuit Association\, and C
 FB Winnipeg. This free family-friendly public event honours Indigenous vet
 erans\, military personnel and the shared commitment to reconciliation.  
 \n\nThere will be events throughout the day from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. See a
 ll the activities at IRG | Voxair\n\nThe Gathering will include screenings
  of two NFB films:\n\nAt 11:40 am: FORGOTTEN WARRIORS - directed by Lorett
 a Todd (1997\, 51 min)\n\nThis documentary introduces us to thousands of I
 ndigenous Canadians who enlisted and fought alongside their countrymen and
  women during World War II\, even though they could not be conscripted. Ir
 onically\, while they fought for the freedom of others\, they were being d
 enied equality in their own country and returned home to find their land s
 eized. Loretta Todd's poignant film offers forth the testimony of those wh
 o were there\, and how they managed to heal.\n\nand\n\nAt 3:05 pm: THIS LA
 ND - directed by Dianne Whelan (2009\, 35 min)\n\nThis short documentary r
 ecounts a 2000-km expedition undertaken by 7 rangers (both Inuit and non-N
 ative) and a female filmmaker to raise a flag on the northernmost tip of C
 anadian soil\, 412 km from the North Pole. With a mesmerizing soundtrack b
 y Nunavut-born singer Tanya Tagaq and spectacular footage of the Arctic la
 ndscape\, This Land captures the epic adventure with raw immediacy.\n\n-
 --\n\nGetting There: On-site parking at the base is extremely limited. A f
 ree continuous shuttle service will be running between Polo Park (Level 2 
 parking) and the base throughout the day\n\n\n
