 ollective\, a coalition-building initiative committed to strengthening org
 anizations\, cultivating solidarity\, and building collective power across
  South Asian communities. \n\nThis free inaugural event will screen the a
 ward-winning documentary A Time to Rise\, followed by a panel discussion o
 n the power of grassroots organizing and collective action\, to be followe
 d by a reception.\n\nPlease join us for this evening of conversation\, con
 nection and community as we bring together South Asian community organizer
 s\, movement leaders and community members.\n\n--- \n\nA Time to Rise - d
 irected by Anand Patwardhan &amp\; Jim Monro (1982\, 39 min)\n\nOn April 6
 \, 1980\, the Canadian Farmworkers Union came into existence. This film do
 cuments the conditions among Chinese and East Indian immigrant workers in 
 British Columbia that provoked the formation of the union\, and the respon
 se of growers and labour contractors to the threat of unionization. Made o
 ver a period of two years\, the film is eloquent testimony to the progress
  of the workers' movement from the first stirrings of militancy to the ene
 rgetic canvassing of union members.\n\n---\nEvent to take place in the Dr.
